"It's laughable, but when I first started meeting
with Liz, what I wanted was the inside scoop on some esoteric
dietary secret that would solve all my problems quickly,
easily, and without much change or effort on my part. Who
doesn't, right? What I got instead of the Dr. Bronner's
18-in-1 All Purpose Holistic Health Secret, was a compact,
in-depth education of several diet/lifestyle systems, like
Ayurveda and Macrobiotics, with a certain insight and flexible
perspective that you rarely get from books. I learned to
appreciate those systems for the ideas behind them, like
the Energetics of Food, while not getting hung up on details
that are difficult to implement. I had stated many goals
in the beginning, ranging from losing wieght to getting
smarter, and because I didn't really focus on any one of
them, I didn't really accomplish any of them. I am still
very unfocused, and stubborn, but what I've realized is
that for me, I have to make changes very slowly, a little
at a time, here and there, because it's too much for me
to try to fix everything at once. Instead of reaching all
my many goals in six months, I've been integrating lasting,

more meaning, but less importance. I cook/eat more whole
