Have a fabulous Holiday season!!! And stay tuned...a whole new program from Hacienda Wellness rolls out next month. For details NOW email me here.

xmas Hacienda Holiday Tips

A few weeks ago, I was joined by a wonderful group of folks for my most recent workshop, The Hacienda Holiday Bootcamp. We discussed all of the things that stress us out about the Holidays, as well as things we can do to combat those things so we don't end up like Ralphie (the sad looking bunny on the left). Below are some of the highlights. I hope you find them as effective as we did. Have a GREAT season!!!

ALSO, pay SPECIAL attention: I am rolling out a whole new program for 2009!!! Details to come.

Ways to Lessen Stress:

-Take Time For YOU.
-Don't Over-Commit
-Make time for light exercise (for mind and body)
-Get enough sleep
-Use the web for shopping. NO TRAFFIC!!!

How To NOT Go Overboard With Spending:

-Set a budget NOW. STICK WITH THAT BUDGET.
-Again, use the web. Make donations to a charity in a persons name.
-If you can eat lunch from home twice a week, you save $20+/week. That adds up to $80+/month which can cover your shopping costs.
-Cook extra size portions so you have food waiting at home (no impulse
crappy costly food purchases)
-MAKE gifts (spice rubs, dry muffin mixes, jam/chutneys, etc)
-BARTER for gifts (tech help for a massage, etc)
-Secret Santa. Paying $50 for one person, not $20 PER person.
-Free e-cards save money & natural resources
-Know what you want before you set foot in the store
-Use the web (instead of gas) to research prices
-EBay, Amazon, Half.com all have amazing deals (and no traffic)
-Beware the 2-for-1 deals. Do you REALLLLY need 2?
-Get a separate check if out with friends
-If you are a freelancer, remember, a gift for someone you do business with CAN BE WRITTEN OFF.

How to NOT Gain Holiday Weight

-Again, have prepared food waiting at home.
-Portion size. Eat smaller portions so you can sample more!
-SLOW DOWN. If everyone is already done when you're finishing up, you probably WONT feel like getting a second helping.
-CHEW. Aids in digestion, makes you fuller faster meaning you take in less calories.
-Take the smaller plate if offered.
-Again: make time to exercise.
-Watch alcohol intake. See tips from my BBQ newsletter.
-DO NOT stand by the food/drink table. Good for socializing, NOT your waistline.
-Bring snacks to eat if the inevitable holiday treat station sets itself up at your job. OR, again, take smaller portions.

Whatever you celebrate, enjoy yourself. If you go overboard one night, just reel it in the next couple of days. DON'T beat yourself up. You know this by now, faithful readers. Thank you for your comments this past year on my newsletters. I hope my rants and musings have helped you. And I look forward to many more years to come.

Cheers!!!

-Liz
