Electric Valentine (CQ Studios), from Huntington Beach, CA. The list of why I love this band is pretty simple: well-produced, instantly likeable indie dance music. Why YOU should love Electric Valentine? Try two MILLION plays on MySpace, landing them Top 10 on the unsigned electro chart. Top 20 on ITUNES' dance chart. Featured on blogs on TV shows, toured the US and UK...not bad for an unsigned band out of SoCal. Chris Qualls and Lauren Baird look to take this impressive start even further when lead single, "Beat Drop" impacts Specialty Radio Friday, August 21, 2009. You can learn more here.
Girls on Film (Soulow Records) from Jacksonville, FL. Hailing from the capitol of Florida, GIRLS ON FILM are an all-female 4-piece whose music is one part lipstick synth-pop and one part icy-cold new wave. Their fashion-fueled combination of high-energy stage antics and Dancetronic Glam Wave - their signature sound - have earned the band a reputation as one of the hottest new wave acts out of the Southeast. New album Mental Image ( available September 30) recorded by the legendary Geza-X shows the girls taking even one more step forward towards indie-electro stardom. Lead single, "Metrosexual" impacts Specialty Radio on Friday, October 9, 2009.
Kiss Mars (self-released) from the UK. Formerly known as The Rodents, Kiss Mars shows how well the years have treated both them and their music. At once more mature and still just as undeniably memorable, this EP went straight onto my IPod. It may be a bit of a 'band-y' cliche, but the influences affecting the band's style of music are so wide and varied that it would be unfair to risk leaving anyone out and, essentially, the best thing you could do is have a listen and make up your own mind. Lead single, "Lost Days" impacts Specialty on Friday, October 2, 2009. You can learn more here.
Little Black Dress (Idol Records), from Dallas, TX. Formed in 2005, Little Black Dress is the brainchild of veteran Dallas musicians Toby Pipes and Nolan Thies. The two have collaborated on the writing, engineering and producing of all the cuts appearing on their debut album "Snow in June". Their unique sound might remind you of a deep-cut track from one of your favorite 4 A.D. compilations with influences spanning decades of innovative music - from synth driven sounds of Cabaret Voltaire, to the droning but noisy guitars and under-stated vocals of My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain, to the layered melodic swirling of the Cocteau Twins. Lead single, "Robin" impacts Specialty Radio Friday, August 21, 2009. You can learn more here.
